There’s so much cooking going on in this house! My parents decided to step outside and enjoy the blazing hot Arizona weather with a good ol’ fashioned barbecue. We had grilled porkchops on the menu with special “inasal” grilling oil—that’s a special type of oil from Bacolod, my mom’s hometown in the Philippines. My aunt and uncle decided to pitch in by driving through the local Hawaiian barbecue—we had some pork tonkatsu, Hawaiian beef and grilled chicken added in our little feast. Add some rice and some tomatoes and onions in vinegar and fish sauce, and you’re set.
Of course, we ate with our hands—like true Filipinos. If you have all this food and rice, why not? My mom up there is demonstrating, as you can see. She’s a master.
